Art+Science Hikes

Hikers from Warren Wilson College and local community on a trail at High Cove

On our art-science hikes, we stop a lot to check out curiosities… so if you are a power hiker and want to maximize your mileage, this may not be your thing. Some may spend a few minutes drawings or writing in a nature journal, taking photos to upload to iNaturalist or Nature’s Notebook, or doing other art-science activities. Most walks will be 2-8 miles round trip, and moderate to moderately strenuous unless otherwise noted.

Hikes often take place on trails at Penland School of Craft, at High Cove, and Black Mountain Crest Trail in Burnsville. Occasionally we take few longer weekend hikes on other trails in the region.

BRING: water, lunch and snacks, rain gear (even if you don’t think you need it), sketchbook for nature journaling and/or cell phone for uploading pix. Please don’t bring pets.

Check the AS IF calendar to find out when hikes are scheduled. On the calendar, you can click on each event to open a pop up with more information.
